Welcome to the SAND LANCE CD Deluxe Edition. The Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition are identical except that the Deluxe Edition contains an additional section with transfer information for the decom crew members so that they can keep in touch with each other. Only crew members will receive the Deluxe Edition.
Special thanks to all those who contributed to this effort. Especially: ETC(SS) Dickson (the ship's multimedia expert) , ET1(SS) Henson (the ship's photographer - he took most of the photographs seen in this CD), STS3(SS) Schneider, and LT Bellotti. The art on the CD case cover was drawn by MS2(SS) Jack Maraglia. Much of the historical information in this CD would not have been available were it not for the insistence of CDR Kennington, the first CO. Numerous notes were found in an apparently left handed scribble that say,"XO start a scrap book and include this," "XO, put this in the scrap book," ....etc, etc. Thank you CDR Kennington. Sadly, there is not much in the scrap book between CDR Kennington's command and CDR Baker's. CDR Baker, the last CO, brought back the scrap book idea but with state of the art multimedia technology. Thanks to CDR Baker for all the video and sound on this disk.
The CD is written to be viewed in a WEB Browser. Any Browser that can read tables will display this CD correctly. If your Browser does not read tables, though most do, you can download several Browsers for free from the internet.
The CD is best viewed at 800x600 resolution with 16 bit color. Lesser settings may cause degraded images and excessive scrolling to view the images. A resolution of 640x480 makes the videos appear with better quality and larger on your screen but will require you to scroll from side to side to read many of the pages. If you do not mind the extra scrolling use 640x480.
Many of the pages on this CD do not contain menus that allow you to back up. Just use the BACK button on your browser to get back to a previous page.
As you view the pages, you will note many small images that are outlined in BLUE (or whatever color you have set up as default for hyperlinks in your browser). Click these images to view larger versions. Many of these images have video or audio attached that play when you click.
The multimedia web browsing format of this disk was designed by LCDR Mike Hallal, the last SAND LANCE Executive Officer.
